Boron Nitride Ceramic:

High temperature and high pressure synthesis
In 1957, Wentorf first synthesized cubic BN. When the temperature is close to or higher than 1700 ° C and the lowest pressure is 11 ~ 12 GPa, the pure hexagonal boron nitride (HBN) is directly converted into a boron nitride (CBN). It was subsequently discovered that the use of a catalyst can greatly reduce the transition temperature and pressure. Commonly used catalysts are: alkali and alkaline earth metals, alkali and alkaline earth nitrides, alkaline earth fluoronitrides, ammonium borate salts and inorganic fluorides. Among them, the temperature and pressure required for using ammonium borate as a catalyst are the lowest, the pressure required at 1500 ° C is 5 GPa, and the temperature range is 600 to 700 ° C at a pressure of 6 GPa. It can be seen that although the addition of the catalyst can greatly reduce the transition temperature and pressure, the required temperature and pressure are still high. Therefore, the equipment for the preparation thereof is complicated and costly, and its industrial application is limited.
