In order to differentiate the those kind of white LED, people measure it with color temperature because some white LED yellowish and some white LED blueish which make people feel cool or warm when they lighting. Both temperature and color temperature are measured in degrees Kelvin, derived from "black body radiation". On the other words, different color temperature will show different lighting result when it's working. For example, at a temperature of 1800K, white SMD LED (or white through-hole LED) is a very orange yellow color. For some project, people can even used that to replace the orange LED or amber LED to reduce the cost. As the temperature increases, the color shifts to yellow, yellowish white, white and them a bluish white and light blue color.
