According to recent news reports, the forecast report released by the research company IHS Technology on the 27th pointed out that the shipment value of OLED panels for smartphone applications in 2018 will surpass the mainstream LCD panels at this stage for the first time. The main reason is Apple's iPhone Passive matrix OLED. New models may adopt OLED panels, and this is expected to bring major changes to the panel market TFT LCD module.
IHS estimates that the shipment of OLED panels for smartphones will reach US$18.6 billion in 2018, which will increase by 75% compared to 2015. In contrast, shipments of LCD panels are expected to decline by 15% to US$17.6 billion OLED Display Module.
At present, only South Korea's Samsung Electronics and some Chinese manufacturers such as Huawei use OLED panels. However, as Apple's iPhone may use OLED panels, the trend of global high-performance smartphones using OLED is expected to become more obvious in the future.
In terms of shipment volume, the shipment volume of smartphones using LCD panels will still be much higher than that of OLED smartphones. Shipment is estimated to be more than twice the level of 558 million LCD Display Module.
