What is Aluminum base board? Aluminum base board purpose
Aluminum base board is a unique metal-based copper clad laminate. Aluminum base board has good thermal conductivity, electrical insulation properties and mechanical processing properties.
Features of Aluminum base board
●Aluminum base board uses Surface-Mount (SMT) &BGA Assembly; Aluminum base board has good heat dissipation performance in the circuit design scheme;
●Aluminum base board can lower the temperature, improve the power density and reliability of the product, and prolong the service life of the product;
●Aluminum base board can reduce the volume and reduce the cost of hardware and Box Build Assembly;
●Aluminum base board can replace Ceramic PCB to obtain better mechanical endurance.
  Aluminum base board structure
   Aluminum base board is a kind of metal circuit board material, which is composed of copper foil, thermally conductive insulating layer and metal substrate. Its structure is divided into three layers:
   Circuit layer: equivalent to the copper clad laminate of ordinary PCB, the thickness of the circuit copper foil is loz to 10oz.
   Insulation layer: The insulation layer is a layer of low thermal resistance thermally conductive insulating material. The thickness is 0.003" to 0.006" inches, which is the core design of aluminum-based copper clad laminates, which has been certified by UL.
   Base layer: is a metal base printed board, usually aluminum or optional copper. Aluminum-based copper clad laminates and traditional epoxy glass cloth laminates, etc.
Aluminum base board consists of a circuit layer, a thermally conductive insulating layer and a metal base layer; the circuit layer (that is, copper foil) is usually etched to form a PCB, so that the components of the assembly are connected to each other. Generally, the circuit layer requires a large current-carrying capacity Therefore, thicker copper foil should be used, the thickness is generally 35μm~280μm;
  The thermal insulation layer is the core technology of the Aluminum base board. It is generally composed of a special polymer filled with special ceramics. It has low thermal resistance, excellent viscoelasticity, thermal aging resistance, and can withstand mechanical and thermal stress. IMS-H01, IMS-H02 and LED-0601 and other high-performance Aluminum base board thermally conductive insulation layer is using this technology, so that it has extremely good thermal conductivity and high-strength electrical insulation performance;
  The metal base layer is the supporting member of the Aluminum base board, which requires high thermal conductivity. It is usually aluminum plate, but copper plate can also be used (in which copper plate can provide better thermal conductivity), which is suitable for conventional machining such as drilling, punching and cutting. Compared with other materials, PCB materials have incomparable advantages. Suitable for Surface-Mount (SMT) &BGA Assembly of power components. No radiator is needed, the volume is greatly reduced, the heat dissipation effect is excellent, and the insulation performance and mechanical performance are good.
