What is PLC splitter?

The PLC splitter is a PLC planar waveguide type optical splitter. The optical splitter is one of the most important passive components in the optical fiber link. The PLC splitter is made by semiconductor technology and is an integrated waveguide optical power distribution device based on a quartz substrate. It is used to distribute optical signals from the central office (CO) to multiple end user locations. It can evenly divide the single/dual optical input into multiple optical outputs, and evenly distribute the optical signals to the users. The branch channels usually have 2, 4, and 8 channels, and more can reach 32 channels and above, expressed as 1×N or 2×N.
