Q: What is a beam splitter ? Waht is the role of the spectroscope ?

A: The optical splitter is a component of the PON network and is a passive device connecting the OLT and the ONU . Its function is to distribute the downstream data and concentrate the upstream data. The optical splitter has an upstream optical interface and several downstream optical interfaces. The optical signal from the upstream optical interface and several down stream ooptical interfaces. The optical signal from the upstram optical interface is distributed to all downstream optical interfaces for transmission, and the optical signal from the down strams otpcial interface is distributed to the only upstream optical interface for transmission. Only when the optical signal is transferred from the upstream optical interface to eh downstream optcial interface, the optical signal strength / optical power will decrease, the same is true when the optical signal is transferred from the downstream optical interface to the upstreema optical interface. The intensity of the optical signal from each downstream optical interface can be the same or different.
