When the throttle is wide open and air rushes into the intake manifold (causing a drop in pressure), the intake manifold absolute pressure sensor signals the engine computer to send more fuel. When the throttle is closed, the pressure rises and a reading from the intake manifold absolute pressure sensor tells the computer to reduce the amount of fuel entering the engine. A faulty intake manifold absolute pressure sensor will usually trigger a "Check engine" warning light.
