The development of membrane filter press from traditional filtration to membrane filtration, such an improved process improves the industrial processing efficiency. The development track of diaphragm filter press is mainly to improve the solid content and washing effect of filter cake inside the equipment. The filtration principle of the diaphragm filter press is that the filter cake layer is formed on the surface of the filter cloth, so that the material can be filtered.It works by allowing water to pass through, passing the liquid to be filtered through its filter cloth, which is left with waste residue and the separated liquid is needed. With the extension of time, the filter cake layer near the filter cake is drier than the filter cake in the middle part, which greatly reduces the water permeability and resulting in the following obvious filtration performance:

1. The pressure of the feed pump increases greatly in the late stage, which wastes energy consumption. 
2. In this filtration cycle, the first 30% of time can achieve 70% dehydration effect, and the last 70% of time can only achieve 30% effect. The filtration time is greatly extended, but the effect is not so good. 
3. The formation of the filter cake is dense and there is no uniform filter cake washing channel, which is not conducive to the subsequent filter cake washing. 
Different from the diaphragm filter press is the diaphragm filter is added at both ends of the filter plate two diaphragm pieces, the diaphragm and the filter plate between the formation of the press chamber, and the diaphragm and the outside of the formation of the filter chamber. 
The press medium (high pressure air or high pressure water) is passed into the press chamber, so that the diaphragm is squeezed in the direction of the filter chamber, so as to achieve the purpose of filtration and dehydration. 

In this diaphragm filter press advantages: 
1. Shorten the filtration time of each batch of materials, improve the utilization rate of the equipment and increase the output. 
2. Low pressure feeding and high pressure pressing of diaphragm filter press, so the solid content of filter cake is greatly improved. 
3. The pre-pressing technology is used in the process of using the diaphragm filter press, so that the filter cake is formed evenly, conducive to washing, and the water consumption is greatly reduced. 
At present, the application of diaphragm filter technology in food is mainly divided into three categories: 
1. After food production and fermentation, concentrated bacterial residue is dehydrated, including citric acid, beer, lactic acid, sucrose, glucose, etc. 
2. Filtration of cooking oil used in food. 
3. The dehydration of edible gum, especially gelatine and carrageenan.
