Product Description
Product Description
Rulon J is an all-polymer reinforced light brown polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) compound with low friction, low wear and self-lubricating properties. It performs exceptionally well on soft mating surfaces such as 316 stainless steel, aluminum, mild steel, brass, and other plastics, and is particularly well suited for applications that require the elimination of stick-slip, such as start/stop applications.

In addition, Rulon J's tribological properties make it suitable for applications with bearings and wear parts.

Rulon J is a homogeneous material product line developed by Saint-Gobain, which is mainly made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-based resins, and is designed with specific customized application requirements in mind.
This material performs well in industrial applications, especially in environments that require low friction and high wear resistance.

Innovations and applications of Rulon® materials in wear engineering

Introduction to the wear-resistant material Rulon®

Friction and wear are key factors in the premature deterioration and failure of engineering components. Frequent inspections and replacement of wear-prone components not only increase maintenance costs, but can also lead to safety hazards and even accidents. Therefore, the use of materials with excellent wear resistance is particularly important, which not only extends the service life of components, but also ensures the safety and efficiency of the entire system during operation.

Facing the long-term challenge of upgrading and optimizing wear-resistant materials, engineers have been on a relentless quest. This journey of discovery has lasted for more than half a century.

Since its introduction in the early 1950s, Rulon® high-performance materials have been at the forefront of the fight against friction and wear, excelling in extreme conditions due to their low coefficient of friction and wear resistance. Unique to the industrial and automotive industries, the use of carefully formulated PTFE fillers makes this material unique, and Rulon® materials are known for their low coefficient of friction, excellent wear resistance, high wear life, and stability under extreme temperatures and pressures.

Examples of Rulon® applications

Rulon® materials enhance the performance and extend the life of automotive air intake systems. The Ford Mustang, an example of American culture and muscle cars, has graced the silver screen more than 3,000 times, accompanying countless heroes, celebrities, villains and minor characters in countless classic stories. The Rulon® J material used in the car's air intake system makes the car even more advanced in performance and durability, which really makes it “like a tiger with wings and a long standby time”.

Rulon® materials are also used in the Curiosity Rover's ball bearings, which are carefully fitted to robotic arms, drilling tools and surface removal tools to help the rover perform critical tasks such as material sampling on Mars.
