As you can see in the pictureL for these 5050 SMD LED, there have three position for the LED chip. For some application, there don't need much high power LED for working. Sometime we just need some small power 940nm LED for emitting some infrared radiation. In order to save the cost and produce some uniform radiation light, we usually packaged three small chip into the 5050 SMD LED case, which got SMD LED in the bottom of the case. There also have 6 pins on the SMD case and each side will got three pins. Each LED chip are independently, which means you can control the working number of the LED.
