The longer the wavelength, the stronger the penetration. The 850 nm infrared lamp means that the central wavelength is near 850 nm and the intensity is the highest. But that doesn't means it is a single wavelength output light source. With this SMD 3535 LED IR, it will also emits some wavelength that near at 760nm which is in the range of visible light. That's why there will have some dim red spot in the middle of the IR LED 850nm when it's work. The weak red light is deliberately left to let you know that the light source is on, so that we can avoid danger. The same is true for common UV lamps.
