The t→m phase occurring during the sintering of pure ZrO2 becomes a non-diffusion phase transition, accompanied by a volume expansion of about 7% and a considerable shear strain (about 8%); on the contrary, when heated, from m→t phase Change, volume shrinks. Since t-ZrO2 belongs to the high temperature stable phase, the phase transition of t-ZrO2→m-ZrO2 occurs spontaneously during the sintering of ceramic products. At present, the scheme for retaining t-ZrO2 to room temperature is: 1 reducing the particle size of ZrO2, and the critical size of t-ZrO2 is about 30 nm at room temperature; 2 introducing an oxide capable of forming a solid solution with ZrO2, such as Y2O3, MgO, CaO or some rare earth.
