The Si3N4 powder and a small amount of additives (such as MgO, Al2O3, MgF2, Fe2O3, etc.) are hot pressed and sintered at a pressure of 1916 MPa or more and a temperature of 1600 °C or more. Some companies in the United Kingdom and the United States use hot-pressed sintered Si3N4 ceramics with strengths of up to 981 MPa. The composition of the additive and phase during sintering has a great influence on the properties of the product. Since the composition of the grain boundary phase is strictly controlled, and the appropriate heat treatment is performed after the Si3N4 ceramic is sintered, it is possible to obtain a Si3N4 ceramic material which does not significantly decrease in strength (up to 490 MPa or more) even at a temperature of up to 1300 ° C, and is resistant to creep. Denaturation can be increased by three orders of magnitude.
