Generally, household or office electronic equipment requires DC power supplies with the output voltage between 5V and 48V. However, the power transmitted from the grid is usually AC 220V in China while it is AC110V in some other countries, which requires a power adapter to transform the voltage and rectify the current. The adapter is composed of a case, a transformer, a rectifying circuit and even a charger, etc. According to the output requirements, it is sorted as AC output type or DC output type.
